Lindsy Halleckson — painter

www.DangerPro.com

Halleckson graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in June of 2002 with degrees in Studio Art and Art History.   Her theses in both areas dealt with philosophical parallels of art and science.  Halleckson is currently a practicing visual artist working out of ?Studiopolis? in Northeast Minneapolis and has shown many of her paintings in galleries in the Minneapolis area.

In many of her works, Halleckson portrays the nature of fragmentation in the scientific community and in American contemporary culture by arranging groupings of paintings to create larger compositions.  The paintings are created to not only be viewed as autonomous pieces, but also function also as interconnected objects or as pieces of the larger whole.  Halleckson has specifically researched the connections of art and science for two years and plans to develop and combine her breadth of knowledge in both literary and visual areas.

Her choice of materials comes from an exploration of painting on various architectural materials including terrycloth, sheetrock, cardboard, dryer sheets, and Styrofoam.  She took an introductory architecture class and tried to incorporate basic building materials into her paintings.  She tried using pink foam insulation after the art department had moved into a new building and took some of the pieces left in the dock area after the renovation.   She loved the density and the smoothness of the surface.  The light weight, along with Polystyrene?s permanence and strength, drew Halleckson to experiment further with the material?s possibilities.
